Volunteering for Footsteps
Footsteps provides comprehensive services and programs to people who have chosen to leave their ultra-Orthodox communities and build self-determined lives. Based in New York with remote offerings nationally, Footsteps provides social and emotional support, educational and career guidance, workshops, and social activities.
After watching an impactful video about the constrained lives of ultra-Orthodox Jews, Alan was inspired to volunteer for Footsteps to help those who wish to further their education. In this community, the secular education received doesn’t go beyond fourth grade, and Yeshiva diplomas aren’t recognized as valid, so the GED needs to be taken.

“So far, I’ve helped two students receive their GEDs, one of whom is now serving in the Army Reserves. I also helped a student prepare for the GRE to get her Masters degree and become a nurse anesthetist.”

Supporting the Chappaqua Summer Scholarship Program
Since 2016, Sheptin Tutoring Group has partnered with the Chappaqua Summer Scholarship Program. The program provides academically motivated students from under-resourced New York City high schools with a three-year summer program of enriching academic and cultural activities.
We’ve provided free multi-week SAT courses, including all materials, to these students, and initiated a college planning essay review program.

“Imagine our joy when we learned that some of our students have received full academic scholarships to schools like Harvey Mudd College, Middlebury College, Lafayette College, and Howard University—and they’re thriving!”
